Upcoming Changes for European DFS Requirements
Manufacturers of Wireless devices operating in the 5GHz band should take note of some important changes that are slated to go into effect with regard to the Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) requirements for Europe.
In order to continue placing products in the EU market, manufacturers must meet the following requirements by these deadlines:
1. After March 31, 2008, equipment must meet EN 301 893 v1.3.1 or 1.4.1.
2. As of July 1, 2008, equipment must detect staggered pulse-repetition-frequency (PRF) in the 5600 - 5650 MHz band or block the band.
3. After March 31, 2009, equipment must meet EN 301 893 v1.5.1. This version of the standard has not yet been released but is based on v 1.4.1 with the addition of the following:
Detect 0.8uS pulse width across 5250 - 5350 and 5470 - 5725 MHz bands
Detect staggered PRF across 5250 - 5350 and 5470 - 5725 MHz bands
Include a solution for weather radar noise calibration period (10 min CAC)
4. Finally, products placed on the market after March 31, 2010 must meet EN 301 893 v1.6.1. Again, this version of the standard has not yet been released but will be based on v 1.5.1 with the addition of the following:
Detect 0.5uS pulse width across 5250 - 5350 and 5470 - 5725 MHz bands

Summer BBQs are back at Elliott Labs!
During the summer of 2008, Elliott once again continues its tradition of hosting free barbeques on the last Friday of every month for our friends, clients and anyone else who might be interested in learning more about the field of compliance engineering.
