Telecom & NEBS Testing
NEBS (Network Equipment Building Systems) is a long-standing set of requirements for equipment used in central office locations of the North American Public Switch Telephone Network. Telephone companies use various forms of network equipment, from many different manufacturers, in close association within their central office locations. To address the potential risks associated with the operation of all this different equipment, the telephone companies, the FCC, and various trade groups worked together to create a universal set of specifications for development of network facilities equipment. Originally authored by Bell Telephone Laboratories in the 1970s, and later expanded by Bellcore, these requirements are known as Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) requirements.
